KALEIDOSCOPE & BAR NEON
Indoor urban landscape featuring skyscrapers and tailored projection mapping - 3Arena, Dublin, opened October 2014
KALEIDOSCOPE & BAR NEON - 3Arena, Dublin, October 2014
Two Bompas & Parr-designed bars threw open their doors to music fans for the first time at the 3Arena earlier this month, to coincide with a concert by Lady Gaga.
Bar Neon is a custom-designed music bar designed in conjunction with EML Architects, with a daring aesthetic of somewhere between Blade Runner and Gulliver's Travels. It is open exclusively to Three and O2 customers - some 20,000 concert-goers are expected to visit the bar in the next year.
Guests will be guided through the 200-capacity venue with its indoor urban landscape featuring skyscrapers, tailored projection mapping and a boldly lit-up custom-built floating mezzanine. Dark surfaces are punctuated by graphic elements of colourful, flickering neon throughout.
In addition, a second bar, the 3Arena Kaleidoscope bar, is a haven from away from the main arena, creating a compelling world of its own. Set high above a stylised city, guests first see a throbbing sequence of airport landing lights. Once inside, a series of cities, suspended over neon seating areas, act as chandeliers and beacons.
A large oculus in the centre of the room features the art installation Kaleidoscope Sky, which gives the bar its name. Bompas & Parr collaborated with artist Doug Foster who filmed ink in a moving tank of water to create footage for the mesmerising, hypnotic and disorientating artwork.
