The Confetti Chandelier - London, NYE 2016/17
For New Year’s Eve, Bombay Sapphire asked Bompas & Parr to create a functional piece of design that would represent it as a brand and the celebratory moment as the clock hits midnight and one year ends and the next begins.
Inspired by the party poppers that are requisite staples of any new year’s eve party, we decided to turbocharge the effect, conceiving a large chandelier that could form the centrepiece of a party. Party poppers became much larger confetti canons, filled with bespoke cut confetti in the shapes of the Bombay Sapphire bottle, its signature glassware and gemstone, along with additional confetti that was aromatised with juniper.
Some 24 such canons were arranged on a specially built rig which was hoisted into the air and wired up with almost a kilometre of wire to a pyrotechnic control board, ready to be activated and captured in the glory of a high resolution camera shooting at 2000 frames per second.
