Remeo Gelato Cannon - June, 2016
- Winner, The Grocer's Top Campaign 2016 (ice cream)
Ahead of Wimbledon 2016, Bompas & Parr worked with Remeo Gelato to create a short film featuring one of the brand's biggest fans, UK ladies number one player Johanna Konta.
The film saw Johanna take to the court for a practice session with a difference, as tennis balls were replaced with balls of gelato in an unlikely battle for victory. Filmed on location at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton in south-west London, the film characterizes the explosion of tennis in a pastiche of the lengths Remeo and Johanna go to in their mutual obsession in the pursuit of excellence.
All the special effects were achieved in-camera, using a special Phantom set-up that shoots at 2,500 frames-per-second to capture spectacular images of Johanna making contact with fast-moving pastel-coloured balls of gelato. Bompas & Parr developed a special technique for deep-freezing gelato balls so that they stood up to the power of Johanna’s return when shot from a doctored tennis ball cannon.
Bompas & Parr extends huge apologies to the National Tennis Centre for the chocolately mark on its indoor courts’ ceiling caused by an errant gelato ball while we were preparing the tennis cannon.
