Junior to Midweight Art Director

This role will allow an ideas-led, visionary junior to middleweight art director to turn innovative content into visual and stunning creative across a wide range of client and internal projects.

The Role

Demonstrating genuinely unique and creative design work and passion for producing outstanding visual stimulus that will be integrated into spectacular and unforgettable experiences. The role will suit candidates who come from a graphic design background but would like to work in a more multidisciplinary capacity. The ideal candidate will have some agency and client handling experience.

 

The role requires experience on large-scale event and branding projects, from creating visual languages, identities, to crafting logos, layout, typography, photography, illustration, moving image, digital visuals and print production. A large part of this role focuses on image-making using various techniques and formats.

 

Objectives 

  • Successfully create and deliver original design and image making by demonstrating solid understanding and application of forward-thinking creative communication techniques
  • Create innovative design for a wide range of clients, ranging from 2D graphic design, film and digital content
  • Generate and articulate ideas internally and externally with flair and passion
  • Develop powerful visual aesthetics that are in keeping with the Bompas & Parr brand
  • Be an influential voice on art direction within the studio, driving forward creative ideas with authority.
  • Push interesting social media content executions, acting as a curator for pieces from across the wider studio, in line with social media strategy.
  • Ongoing face-to-face contact with Clients

Core responsibilities

  • Assist in art direction and image making, creating concepts and treatments and production thereof
  • Create visual documents for new business proposals and concept development presentations in InDesign and Keynote
  • Generate all 2D visual and artwork for client projects from concept to final delivery
  • Create in-house graphic content for websites, press campaigns, social media and B&P-initiated event design collateral
  • Work with the Creative Director to create and set the future vision of the Bompas & Parr brand and aesthetics
  • Seek innovation and inspiration to keep Bompas & Parr ahead of the field and share findings with the wider team
  • Event, product and lifestyle photography
  • Work together with the Editorial team to produce content for the BAP social media strategy to grow audience.
  • Lead the agencies social media presence and advise on social media approaches for client projects
  • Line-manage freelance in-house graphic designers on studio/client projects
  • Create briefs for and commission illustrators/photographers or other pieces of external freelance design work
  • Source appropriate suppliers/materials to deliver projects within budget.
  • Have an active role in maintaining the BAP website

About You

Essential experience

  • Art/design-based degree level qualification
  • Confident in challenging the brief with a keen eye for finishing touches and a high level of finessing
  • Exceptional typography and graphical layout skills
  • Post-production, editing and artworking experience
  • Studio and/or event photography experience
  • Significant experience in presenting ideas and concepts and articulating ideas with skill
  • Highly competent working in all Adobe Creative Suite programmes, notably InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Experience in a high volume, fast paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to think creatively and problem solve through design
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills

Desirable experience

  • The ideal candidate will ideally have some agency experience
  • Previous art direction experience of motion graphics and film preferred
  • Use of Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Photographic editing skills
  • Live event experience
  • Some editorial experience
  • Special talents encouraged and welcome
  • Use of rendering software such as Rhino or Z-Brush
  • Active in using cutting edge AI and Image generating software

General

  • To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required
  • To be able to speak knowledgeably and articulately about all aspects of the work of Bompas & Parr and to support the organisation’s principal aims and objectives
  • To communicate regularly and effectively with the Directors and to seek support from appropriate staff at the earliest opportunity should problems arise

Please note, due to the nature of the role you will be expected to work occasional evenings and weekends. There may also be the requirement to travel internationally.

 

Team structure: The Junior to Midnight Art Director will be part of the Creative team led by the Creative Director and line managed by the Creative Director, and the senior members of the Creative team.

Summary of terms and conditions 

  • Salary based on experience, paid monthly in arrears
  • The contract is a permanent full-time position subject to successful completion of a three-month probationary period
  • The post is based in Bompas & Parr’s studio in Barbican
