The Confetti Chandelier
A metaphorical interpretation of the joy of gin
London, 2016: For New Year’s Eve, Bombay Sapphire asked Bompas & Parr to create a filmable object that would metaphorically represent the taste of its gin at the stroke of midnight.
Inspired by party poppers – the requisite staples of any good party – we decided to turbocharge the effect.
Party poppers morphed into confetti canons, arranged in formation to create a large, explosive chandelier, with its chambers filled with bespoke confetti – taking the shape of the Bombay Sapphire bottle and its signature glassware, along with confetti aromatised with its signature botanical, juniper.
Some 24 canons were arranged on a specially built rig and wired to a pyrotechnic control board, ready to be captured by a high-resolution camera shooting at 2,000 frames per second.
