Spectacular experiential spaces rooted in place, nature, and whisky mastery

Global, 2024-25: From Singapore to Hong Kong, Bogotá to London and Los Angeles, Bompas & Parr has worked with The Macallan to reposition retail as a sophisticated, immersive experience. Each House and Boutique is conceived to evoke the Macallan Estate, translating its heritage, landscapes and craftsmanship into a tangible journey for visitors.

Dubbed "Experiential Retail" we first designed a sensory storytelling experience, before rolling this out across spatial planning and visual merchandising to the development of experiential dining, bar concepts and bespoke educational tools such as the Amber-ometer, which demonstrates the influence of oak on whisky colour. In Singapore, “gourmet foraging” transformed dining into an act of discovery; in Hong Kong, the narrative was scaled for a larger stage; in Bogotá, intimacy and exclusivity prevailed. At travel retail locations in London and Los Angeles, high-impact launches and staff training ensured consistency of experience. These projects position The Macallan’s spaces as global outposts of its home, uniting brand, place and product in a single, coherent whole.

The Macallan House Singapore

The first of The Macallan’s reimagined “home” spaces, Singapore marked a bold shift from retail to fully immersive experience. Tasked with shaping every moment of the guest journey, we designed visual merchandising, dining, bar, and education experiences that brought the Macallan Estate vividly to life. Displays represented barley fields, the River Spey, woodlands, the distillery, and Easter Elchies House, realised in natural materials and botanicals. Dining was reimagined through “gourmet foraging,” where dishes were hidden across landscaped table settings. At its heart stood the Amber-ometer, a bespoke tool illustrating the spectrum of natural whisky colours and the influence of oak. We oversaw the launch and delivered full staff training, ensuring the experience lived beyond opening day.

The Macallan House Hong Kong

The second Macallan House evolved the Singapore concept, scaling it for a larger space while preserving its connection to the estate and nature. Our work spanned spatial planning, curating thematic displays, and integrating immersive hospitality touchpoints throughout the space. Guests encountered the same storytelling depth, from botanical details to rich educational moments, while enjoying a grander, more expansive setting. As with Singapore, we led the opening and delivered comprehensive staff training, embedding the ethos of Nurtured by Nature in every interaction.

The Macallan House Bogota

A discreet, invitation-only space designed for exclusive clients and intimate tastings, The Macallan Gallery Bogota brought a sense of refinement and privacy to the brand’s experiential world. Working closely with the local team, we staged the launch to reflect both the sophistication of the brand and the warmth of its storytelling. We provided full training for staff, focusing on delivering deeply personal, high-touch hospitality that would make each guest feel like a valued part of The Macallan’s story.

The Macallan Boutique Heathrow

Within the travel retail environment, we brought The Macallan’s narrative to a high-traffic, airport setting without sacrificing intimacy or impact. At Heathrow, we orchestrated a launch event that blended spectacle with sensory engagement, introducing travellers to a curated selection of whiskies and brand stories. Every element—from product display to guest flow—was crafted to feel as considered as a flagship House, condensed into a boutique format designed for the pace and curiosity of global travellers.

At Los Angeles International Airport, our focus was on ensuring consistency of experience through team development. We delivered immersive training designed to help staff bring The Macallan Estate’s character, history, and craftsmanship to life for an international audience. Every interaction was shaped to transform a brief encounter into a moment of connection and brand discovery.
